Other Characters: Agent York (Red vs. Blue) & Sam Winchester (Supernatural)
Character: Kenzi (Last name is currently unknown in canon.)
Series: Lost Girl
Deviance: d1
Age: Early twenties – age is unknown in canon. (There's a lot about this girl that isn't known, okay.)
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Canon Used: The under-appreciated Canadian tv series. (Like, seriously. Either no one knows about this show or they don't care to give it a try, and they need to. Just sayin'.)
Appearance: Tiny human. No, really. Not much over five feet tall, if that, with long black hair and bright blue eyes. She usually dresses pretty punk/goth-ish and utilizes her fair share of different-colored wigs. (Depending on the alias she's going by or whatever trick she's trying to pull.) But just because I like looking at her, here's a picture of her pretty face: http://venus.provocateuse.com/images/photos/ksenia_solo_02.jpg
Psychology: Where to begin describing such a tiny human with such a huge personality ..
First and foremost, I suppose, she is a sneaky little thief with the street smarts of someone well beyond her age. She makes her first appearance snagging wallets in the bar Bo has just started working at, making her way through the crowd and slipping them into her pocket as she goes along. She is something of a master of disguise, employing many different wigs and outfits as well as aliases for each of them whenever she has to go undercover. Mainly, it seems these were used for any one of the scams she chose to run before meeting Bo and convincing her to become a private investigator - such as the fact that she had a running scam of being a gypsy and performing house cleansing for a real estate agent. She puts a lot of effort into her disguises, into the act of becoming whoever she wants to be perceived as, and that's what makes them so believable. There is also nothing she won't do for money - or the promise of some kind of monetary reward. Mention the prospect of her being able to line her pockets with cash or even old school treasure of some sort, and she'll do anything you want her to.
Kenzi is also very blunt. Very to-the-point - though maybe not on the same level as Bo. She has no problem whatsoever of letting someone know what she thinks about them, or that she doesn’t trust them, etc. She is also up for offering her opinion even when no one asks for it. Being a human in the Fae world, generally speaking, the only person that even pays remote attention to her opinion is Bo, but she never seems to take it for granted. Even if it takes her a little bit to catch up. (Like how she knew Kenzi didn’t approve of her seeing Ryan, a member of the Dark Fae, and it took her a while to make up her mind to end whatever it was they had together.)
To say she’s stubborn might be putting it a bit mildly. Whenever she’s told to stay behind - or just stay put - because whatever mission Bo has is too dangerous, she never listens. Because she wants to be able to help, and staying put is never conducive to being of much help. Which also lends to her penchant for getting herself into trouble. Being human is one thing, and while she doesn’t view it as a shortcoming on her part, it never fails to lend a hand in getting her into a situation that she can’t get herself out of. At least without some help. (Like getting locked in a trunk, for one thing.) But every single time, whether someone rescues her or there is a turn of events that allow her to escape whatever she’s found herself in, she always comes through. For Bo, or whoever it is she’s trying to help. Because she’s also nothing, if not tenacious.
She is fiercely loyal. To Bo, especially, but there are others she’s formed tentative bonds with along the way as well. The bond she shares with Bo is the strongest, of course - Bo saved her life. Or, really, just kept her out of harm’s way when a sleaze ball guy in a bar gave her a drink that had something in it and she found herself pretty out of it. It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship - so to speak. Bo is often very exasperated with her when she doesn’t do something she asks her to, or when she does something she specifically asks her not to, but in the end, it never proves enough to drive them apart. Bo is really the closest thing she’s had to real family in a very long time, and there’s nothing she won’t do to keep it as such.
Along with that fierce loyalty comes with the uncanny ability to hold a grudge if she feels you’ve wronged someone she cares about in any way. Case in point, when Bo and Dyson agree to be friends with benefits regardless of the fact that Bo clearly cares about him, Kenzi spends quite a bit of time making his life a living hell. (Which mainly just boils down to being a little brat and making snide remarks whenever he’s in earshot.) There is also the instance - after the Norn takes Dyson’s love for Bo - that Kenzi takes it upon herself to summon Baba Yaga to curse him. All of this because she’s trying to protect Bo and her feelings, or simply avenge the fact that she’s been hurt in the first place. There is a level of devotion to the succubus that more than implies that there is nothing she won’t do for her.
Kenzi is a bit of a spazz. (And that’s putting it pretty mildly.) While there have been times when she’s been able to keep a cool head about her, she can freak out at the drop of a hat. When she watches the video she managed to take the night that Bo saved her from the sleazy guy that roofied her drink, to say she freaks out is an understatement. An incredible one, at that. (Of course, really, when you’re a human and have no idea what a succubus is, it’s pretty easy to freak out about seeing one in action for the first time.) When there’s trouble, she’s pretty quick to make up a worst-case scenario that involves some pretty impossible outcomes, as well as some pretty outrageous scenarios. She also has a tendency to babble incessantly about these terrible outcomes and outrageous scenarios until someone manages to tell her to calm down. Which she does, easily enough.
Even still, she manages to keep an upbeat, optimistic attitude even when she should be scared out of her mind. It might be a defense mechanism, but either way, it keeps her functioning when no one else really seems to know what to do.
As far as her friendships go, aside from Bo, they are pretty varied. With Lauren, there is tentative trust, there. Because she’s important to Bo, she probably trusts her more than she would otherwise. (Even if Lauren has been a bit deceitful in the past, Kenzi has been willing to look past that because she makes Bo happy, and that’s very important to her.)
She is pretty close to Hale, who serves as her bro-in-times-of need more often than not. (Everyone likes to see them as the sidekicks, so they have to stick together, right?) The depth of their friendship shows even more when she agrees to be his acting girlfriend for his family, just so his father will leave him alone about his social life. (Presumably.) And even when his father and sister continuously bring up the fact that Hale is dating a human, she doesn’t let it get her down. Sure, she accuses him of using her, but once he clears up the fact that he’s trying to make a point about getting the Fae more involved with humans, she seems to let it slide. Simply put, she cares about him, even if he does get on her nerves pretty often. Of course, that could probably be said about anyone that interacts with her on a regular basis.
With Trick, aside from the fact that she annoys him beyond all meaning of the word on a regular basis and abuses the right to free drinks whenever she pleases, he’s the closes thing she has to a father figure. He very clearly cares for her, and she readily comes to him with any problems she might have - most of which always concern Bo in some form or fashion. She trusts him just as much as she trusts Bo, and that’s definitely saying something - and he treats her like family.
And though he isn’t a recurring character in the series, for his duration, she cared very much about Nate. He’s the only piece of her past that seems to have had any positive association, and to have him find her after so long spent apart, there aren’t really any words for it. While she was with him, she was truly happy for the first time in a long time - and the fact that she willingly accepted the deal of owing the Morrigan a favor in exchange for her leaving him alone just shows how readily she will sacrifice something to assure the safety of someone she cares about. She loved him, very much - and the fact that she had to lie to him, to tell him that she didn’t love him to get him to leave just to secure his safety has left her feeling more than just a little broken. And while she’ll surely bounce back from it, it will take a while - so she has to focus on being there for Bo when she needs her. Which is easy enough, considering ..
Her relationship with Dyson is, at times, complicated. Initially, he was on the bro level, the same as Hale. But when things started getting rocky with Bo, she made her alliances clear. Bo comes first, Dyson is not to be trusted, so on and so forth. Later on, though, when things calm down, they seem to form this tentative friendship. Or, maybe they simply tolerate each other. That fact seems to change when an incident causes them to body-swap - when they each seem to learn more about the other than they had before. Dyson gains a sense of respect for the tiny human that would do anything to protect the people she loves, that her strength is remarkable. And she learns there is something broken in him - that there’s something missing, and has been ever since he gave up his love to the Norn.
She cares deeply for him, though. And that fact comes to the forefront when she stays behind to gather his body from a group of Berserkers that he and the rest of them had come to dispose of. While everyone else had taken their leave, she stayed behind to make sure he was safe, or to at least get him to safety once she wasn’t in any immediate danger, herself. It comes back again when she devises a plan to get Dyson’s love back from the Norn, and could have very well risked her life in getting it back for him. Because they needed him to be whole, and that clearly he was absolutely miserable without it. Because it was the best of him, and she wanted him to have it back.
Lastly, as far as the mundane things go, she’s pretty easy to please. She can’t seem to function without her coffee, will eat anything put in front of her - especially anything with melted cheese, oh god - and probably enjoys her share of alcoholic beverages a little too much. (Someone take the vodka away from her, please. Before she hurts herself.) She also enjoys playing video games, especially if they’re of the robot hooker variety. She keeps herself in a steady stockpile of high-heeled boots and tight-fitting corsets and is never shy about showing off her quirky sense of style. Kenzi, in a single word, is quirky - but again, that goes without saying. She is herself, and could never be anything but.
Oh, and because I love you very, very much, have some links for reference on how quirky she is. |D

Reality Description: Here we go with more monsters and myth and all of that awesome stuff!
First of all, the setting of the canon isn't any different from our modern-day world. It has the same technology, same everything – I'm almost positive both Bo and Kenzi walk around with iPhones for the entire show. All of that is the same, with the exception of the addition of the Fae.
The Fae keep their presence known to only their kind – but they do interact with humans, just without the latter's knowledge to their existence. Most Fae can pass themselves off as humans without any problem at all; take Bo, for example. A succubus, but she looks like any other pretty young woman with a nice pair of legs. Dyson and Hale, a werewolf and Siren respectively, both look like fine gentlemen and actually even have jobs with the local police department. (And yes, apparently a man can be a Siren. I was surprised too.)
Now, there are two different sides to the Fae: Light and Dark. Those aligned with the Light are pretty much the goody-two-shoes of the Fae world, vow to do no harm to humans, so on and so forth – though it's generally seen among the Fae world that humans are pretty much the scum of the universe no matter what side you're on. The Dark, as you might have guessed, are the bad guys. They don't really care about preserving human life or anything beyond helping themselves in whatever way possible, and though there is a peace treaty between the two sides, they very clearly don't get along.
And very likely never will. And considering Bo isn't aligned with either side? You bet your behind that's causing a little bit of an uproar. (Okay, more than just a little bit, but .. hey, what can you do.)
Kenzi is pretty much the only human – aside from Lauren, who serves the Ash, the leader of the Light Fae, directly – to have anything to do with the Fae world. And it's pointed out on several occasions that she isn't necessarily welcome among them, but do you think she gives a crap? No sir, buddy, nuh uh. She's helped these guys with a hell of a lot of stuff .. and even if she's gotten herself into some trouble along the way, she's not exactly the type to just see herself out when she isn't wanted.
But, yeah, before I ramble on and on about things that aren't relevant in this section, let's put this to a close. In the Fae world – any kind of thing from any kind of myth you might have ever heard, any monster from any lore – they exist. Will O' the Wisps, nymphs, naga .. even the infamous Baba Yaga. (Yep. That's right. I said it. She's an ugly bitch, too.) Here's a nice little link for mythological and cultural references in the series, just for the hell of it: http://lostgirl.wikia.com/wiki/Mythology
First Person Speaking Sample: .. Whoa. Okay. What the hell did I do this time?
[kenzi is no stranger to finding herself in some really .. interesting situations. to be quite honest, if things suddenly stared going normally for her? she'd be more than just a little surprised, just for the simple fact that she's gotten used to dealing with this whole crazy fae business.
which means she's not entirely flabbergasted when she finds herself on the plane. she's in the forest, in the middle of nowhere, and she stands there for a few moments with her hands on her hips, staring at the trees around her, trying to figure all of this out.] Bo? Dyson – .. Hale ..
Anybody wanna tell me what the shit's goin' on, here? 'Cause I could've sworn I went to bed sober last night. At least .. I .. think I did –
Okay, I swear I was mostly sober when I went to bed last night! C'mon!
[she leans against a nearby tree, trying to get her bearings, pulling her phone out of a pocket and holding it up to see if it has a signal – and unsurprisingly, it doesn't. Fan-friggin'-tastic. she pauses here for a second, scowling at the device in her hand before she shoves it back in her pocket, hooking her thumbs through her beltloops and starting to walk in whatever direction she's currently facing.
because she's not going to find anything out by standing still, and she knows it. so, best get to steppin', right?]
Third Person Writing Sample: Like many of her bright, bright ideas, she hadn’t really thought things through to the fullest. The fact that it had been a little too simple to rent a chainsaw didn’t help matters. Well, it didn’t help them beyond the simple, recurring thought of I have to do this for him.
Because they were about to get into the thick of things. Shit was about to get so real, and they needed him. Needed him to be whole again. And that was why, very simply put, Kenzi had decided to take matters into her own hands and get his mojo back.
She wasn’t claiming to see it as a foolproof plan. She was human - had her faults - and of course, that meant her logic did, too. But what she lacked in a plan to keep from getting in over her head, she made up for with ambition. Determination. Because she’d spent too long watching him, seeing the emptiness in his eyes and knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was miserable -
Being stuck in his body had just made everything crystal clear. She could still feel it, sometimes, deep in the middle of her own chest; that painful emptiness that nothing could touch, nothing could take away. He wasn’t a whole person without his love, and whether it was for Bo or someone else, he more than deserved to have it back.
Which was why she was standing in front of him now, goggles still strapped on, a softness in those gray eyes that she didn’t reserve for very many people - with a small bottle held in an outstretched hand. Dyson’s astonishment was immediate - Kenzi, what did you do? - but she acted as if it were no big deal. No big deal at all that she had just broken down the Norn’s front door and bullied her into giving him his heart back. No big deal that she had risked her tiny human neck to get it back for him. No. Big. Deal.
She just .. hoped it was going to be enough to help Bo.
Dyson was still staring at her, and she just smiled. “You got your mojo back, fuzzball. Just put it to some good use, huh?”
Did you read the rules? Yes'm I sure did. (I think I know them by heart by now.)
